An emotional Virat Kohli was consoled by his wife Anushka Sharma after India lost the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Final to Australia on Sunday. The Indian cricket team was unbeatable in the tournament until they faced the mighty Aussies in the big final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The men in blue failed to put up a challenging score on the board, getting bundled out for 239. Even the bowlers started off decently to defend the total but nothing worked against the duo of Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne. Their 192-run stand for the fourth wicket helped Australia clinch a record sixth world title.

While the Aussies burst into jubilant celebrations, the Indian players were numb and disheartened. Mohammed Siraj couldn’t control his emotions and he broke into tears. Captain Rohit Sharma held his head down while heading to the dressing while Kohli hid his face with the cap. Later he was seen getting a warm hug from his wife, Anushka Sharma.

The picture of Anushka hugging Kohli has now gone viral on social media.

We were not good enough today

With a heavy heart, Rohit admitted that the Indians were not good enough in the final to outsmart Australia. With the defeat, India’s drought of ICC titles continued with the last one coming in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

“The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn’t supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets,” Rohit told the broadcasters.

“When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne who stitched together a big partnership and put us completely out of the game. We tried everything we could but I feel the wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don’t want to give that as an excuse,” he added.
