Rajasthan: 6 Cops, On Poll Duty For PM Modi's Rally, Killed in Road Accident in Churu

Six policemen of Khinvsar police station in Nagaur and one cop from a women's police station were travelling in the vehicle when it collided with a truck on National Highway 58

Six police personnel, who were deployed for PM Modi’s security, died while one was left injured after a vehicle they were travelling rammed into a truck in poll-bound Rajasthan’s Churu district on Sunday.

Six policemen of Khinvsar police station in Nagaur and one cop from a women’s police station were travelling in the vehicle when it collided with a truck on National Highway 58 near Kanuta post of Sujangarh Sadar police station, Churu SP Praveen Nayak said.

The personnel were assigned to VIP security duty for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election rally in Jhunjhunu on Sunday and were heading to the venue from Nagaur, police said.

The deceased policemen were identified as ASI Ramchandra of Khinvsar police station, constables Kumbharam, Suresh Meena, Thanaram and Mahendra, Nayak said, adding that Sukharam died while on the way to a hospital.

The injured policeman has been hospitalised, he added.

Among the deceased, the ASI and three policemen were from Khinvsar police station and one constable was from Jayal police station, Sujangarh CO Shakeel Khan said.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and DGP Umesh Mishra condoled the loss of lives in the accident.

“Early this morning, sad news was received about the casualties of policemen in a vehicle accident in Sujangarh Sadar area of Churu. Our deepest condolences to the families of all the policemen who died in this accident. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Gehlot said on X.

PM Modi was in poll-bound Rajasthan yesterday to hold public meetings ahead of the voting in the state which is scheduled to take place in a single phase on November 25.
